Answer #1

Answer.

According to the conflict theory, society is a culmination of conflict or contestation between different economic, racial and social groups for limited resources, power and influence. state agencies such as the police operate towards marinating the status quo of the dominant groups and ensure the larger situation of inequality in society. Thus, it is likely that the parking ticket on one’s car would be seen as an act of discrimination as we may consider that we were given a parking ticket for our common Ford car because it suggested our status as a common middle class tax paying citizen who is not as influential as a high end Mercedes car owner. Thus, based on the conflict perspective, higher levels of minority presence and overall economic inequality will predict higher levels of social control from police force.
