Answer #1

(1) Things to prepare beforehand

  • information of the suspect should already be taken out about his personal or profession or whatsoever life
  • List of the questions to be asked
  • details of the case should be known thoroughly by the interviewer

(2) Things that should be asked of the suspect;-

  • You should always ask the suspect, in the beginning, to tell him the whole story in once without asking any questions from your side or interrupting him.
  • you should ask him things you already know about the case.
  • You should also make the suspect comfortable in your o presence so that he/she easily gives you the information needed
  • The other strategy can be playing good cop-bad cop with the suspect where one plays a bad cop who asks a question by threatening, or rudely and the other being the good cop asks him politely and showing to be more on his side. this helps the suspect to tell the things to the good cop.
  • you should ask him a question without giving him much time between questions

  1. Written - You can write the statements given by a suspect in details for cross-checking the suspect in the future. remember that the interview is also written in indirect speech
  2. Audio - You can record the interview with an audio device so that every detail is there with you whenever you need it, it is handier and more detailed also it would be more accurate.
  3. Video - You can also take his/her interview by recording the whole interview on camera which would not only be accurate but also make a check on the behaviour of the suspect when the interviewer was asking the questions.

  • Fidgeting - again this is not a solid indicator of a lie but you can tell if a person is fidgeting that he is now nervous.
  • if the person remembers every minute details of something which in the normal course of time people usually do not bother to remember that it can be make out that something is fishy or cooked up.
