Homework Answers

Answer #1

Ostensive definitiona are demonstrative meanings that directly point out examples while explaining the concept. It is often referred to as defining by pointing.

Example: Red is the colour of apple.

This type of definition has most significance when the concept is complex to be defined verbally. Giving examples directly clears the concept as well as the context. These definitions are often accompanied by gestures pointing towards what is being defined. Thus, it is very helpful for explaining concepts to children or the intellectually disabled.
