I consider euthanasia should be legal as long as the patient or the person is conscious of his/her decision. Each case must be carefully analyzed. While it is not legal in most of the states of this country, some states allow it, and I guess there are professional psychologist who determine each patient and case. I consider that euthanasia more than controversial is a very delicate topic. There are thousands of people out there who are suffering a lot, and their best option is the euthanasia. How many people out there suffer a terminal illness? How many people with cancer and terrible pain want to die? How many doctors want to assist their patients in cases like the ones mentioned before and how many others refuse to do it? Eventually the United States of America will need have a debate and get a decision about it. I remember watching on TV the case of a young man who suffered cancer on the brain. This guy suffered terrible seizures and pain. When he went to see the doctor, and he was sent home with morphine. He mentioned that the pain was strong that the medicine was not able to relive it. Eventually, this guy died because of his cancer and doctors did not listened when he begged for euthanasia. This guy lived in the state of California where euthanasia is not legal yet. The only thing that people (specially for the ones who oppose) will need to keep in mind is that euthanasia should be legal as long as the person is conscious of their decision.
Thank you so much!!!
I am in agreement with the suggestion that euthanasia should be considered on a case to case basis. I am not advocating euthanasia for everyone who is undergoing treatment for some terminal illness or incurable diseases but if the patient is not left with any willpower to suffer through and the clinical opinion of the doctor also concurs to the incurability then the decision of the patient or the trusted caregiver should be respected. I see no merit in lingering the pain and suffering of the person and snatch away their dignity.
