Identify one bureaucracy that is common in our society that most people would be familiar with.   • One bureaucracy which is common is the people working in government offices. People who work for government agencies, from high-level managers and executives to clerical staff, are called bureaucrats. The people working different departments of the ministry i.e. defence,income tax,tranportation,education,administration etc. all are called bureaucrats.
  • Also people working colleges and universities are a part of bureaucracy wherein clear hiearchy is present right from the clerk to the principal,pay structure is defined according to job position,roles and responsibilities are written down formally.
  • “Clientele agencies” are those executive departments and agencies like, for example, the Department of Agriculture, that serve and represent particular interests in society; other examples include the Departments of Interior, Labor, and Commerce.
  • Goals of a bureaucratic structure include-Workers in a bureaucracy perform specialized tasks that call for training and expertise.
  • Trained personnel can accomplish their jobs efficiently. The downside of specialization is that bureaucrats often cannot or refuse to "work out of class" — that is, take on a task that is outside the scope of their job description.
  • Bureaucrats fulfill important roles, including implementing laws, making and enforcing rules when legislative prescriptions are vague, and settling disputes (as courts would) through administrative adjudication.
