Eric Williams had carried out a classical study in the year 1944, which was referred to as capitalism and slavery. Eric Williams said that withfhe negro, slavery had been defined in very narrow definitions. Thus, to an economic phenomenon, there had been a racial twist provided. Slavery had not been born as a result of racism, rather, racism had come up as a result of slavery. In the new world, captivated labour was formed by the people of colour, which were either brown, black or yellow.
Hence, he states that the reason for slavery was not racial but was economic. It was about the cheapness of labour and not about the colour. He stated that racism came up as a result of slavery becoming so much intertwined that new world relatoinw wee defined by these slaveholding colonies.
