If Mike was a good kid, loved unconditionally, with no addiction in his immediate family, but from a long line of addicts and in the 10th grade he started hanging out with the "wrong crowd" and became addicted to heroine, were his struggles due to identity development, motivation or traits? why?

Both nature and nuture that is genes and environment play their part in addiction.As Mike struggled with identity crisis ,the peer pressure and genetic predisposition,he was at risk of addiction ,which eventually happened.The individuals with family history of addiction has more chances of becoming an addict due their genetic make up , combined with the environmental factors when exposed to addiction.Here the identity crisis of Mike along with the"wrong crowd" and his genetic trait made him vulnerable to the addiction.
