According to Peter Singer, "Most human beings are speciesists". What does this statement mean and do you support Singer's arguments? Explain.
"Most human beings are speciesists" as stated by Peter Singer denotes that human beings especially in industrialized and urban settings have a communal. Irrespective of the busy lives and rat races, they come together as a unit during mealtimes to eat together. By doing so, they are apparently exhibiting good deeds. The good deeds of coming together as a unit for mealtime makes a person moral and ethical in comparison to animals. Also, Peter Singer's statement gets my consensus. I reckon, a man shows more concern towards another fellow human being in comparison to an animal. He chooses his species to another making him speciesists.
