One critic writes, “The [purpose] of Life of Pi is to replace the Enlightenment belief in the power of reason to liberate humanity with a belief in the transforming power of story. That Pi shows little or nothing in the way of personal growth or development over the course of the narrative seriously compromises this project.” Agree or disagree with this claim, explaining and defending your position.

Answer #1

I have seen Life of Pi many a times, and the reason that I watch the movie is the same that is nothing can come between you and your personal motive is the main line of this story. So I strongly agree with this statement. There are of course stages of enlightement where you feel joyful, you feel enlightned, you feel gifted but then above all it is only you and your efforts that leads you to success.

The Enlightnment belief appears in stories or in fairy tales where a fairy godmother comes and rescues you. But in real life you have to struggle for the same. Humanity does not comes easily. one needs to struggle for it, of one experiences pain one can contribute or think more about humanity.
