Directions: Read the scenario below and answer the reflective questions based on the scenario. Your response for each question should be 50-100 words. Do not exceed 100 words in your response. Include any scholarly references to support your responses. Scenario: Maria Sanchez is a 60-year-old Latina woman who has concerns about her neighbor Lynn, a 21-year-old White woman. Lynn appears to have “issues” and is disturbing the neighbors at various times of the day and night. She exhibits bizarre behavior at times and then is seemingly normal for weeks. Another neighbor Paul (35 years old, Black and gay) has called for a meeting of the residents to discuss the “new type” of resident. You are a local advocate who knows Lynn and the situation that is brewing in her residence. Reflective Questions: 1. What worries might the residents express regarding their new neighbor? Does their age and cultural background have an impact with their impression of Lynn? 2. What type of federal laws could bear on this matter? 3. As an advocate, how would you assist Lynn in working with other cultures and age groups in her living situation?

Answer #1

1. In this case, the new neighbor Lynn is creating trouble to her neighbors, by disturbing them with her bizarre behaviours, which might include her personal problems like interpersonal issues with someone or work setting issues. But what ever may be the cause, she must not disturb her neighbors as they are not to be blamed for her own problems. The neighbors may get worried because they might land up in some sort of trouble due to her strange behaviors, where she may act rudely to others as they might complain to her regarding her activities or she might initiate some sort of arguements with her neighbors. They may also get disturbed at night times when these people want to sleep peacefully but she might create inconvenience by disturbing them.

There are possible chances that age and culture plays a important role in this issue. As we can see, all three of the characters in this case belongs to different age groups and different cultures. Maria is a very elderly person who might obviously find Lynn's behaviours to be annoying. Since Paul is mentioned to be black and gay, he might view Lynn to be more different from him as she is a white woman. This might further add up to the problem as these people find each other to be dissimilar. If at all they belonged to the same age group or have same cultural background, they might have resolved this issue in a smooth manner rather than taking it to an advocate.

2. Regarding this issue, The Federal Law on Neighborhood Nuisance could be used to take legal actions on Lynn as she has been creating disturbances and troubles to her neighbors with her bizarre bahaviors.

3. Lynn could be given a detailed description regarding the disturances that she has been giving to her neighbours and how they are affected by it. She could be asked for explanations from her side regarding the problems that is bothering her and she might be sent to a counsellor for resolving her issues, because that is the reason behind her bizarre behaviors. Then she might be told to avoid such activities by adapting and adjusting to her neighborhood conditions. And she should also be warned that any such activities in the future will be taken in to legal considerations.
