Authentic leader is a group leader who claims legitimacy for power through inculcating genuine and honest relationships with followers which value their input. They build an ethical team based work environment.

authentic leaders foster truthful self-concepts who promote openness. Thus, they practice the Socratic idea of ‘know thyself’’ and focus on understanding 'their own strengths and weaknesses, as a way of understanding the nature of human motivation and well-being for others in the group as well. This ability to understand their own emotional state allows them to develop more effective communication within the group.
