Describe how physical activity lowers stress and enhances wellbeing.

Describe how physical activity lowers stress and enhances wellbeing.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

When we engage in physical exercise, chemicals called endorphins are released. Endorphins are involved in reducing feelings of pain and increasing feelings of pleasure. Physical exercise also helps us to channel our arousal in a positive direction, thereby reducing stress. Exercise allows us to keep our blood pressure and heart rate in check (an increase in both is a common reaction to stress). Thus, by triggering the release of feel good hormones and keeping the bodily processes under control, physical activity lowers stress and fosters well being.
