Obesity is a major health concern in the U.S. even more so among poor Americans. What type of public programs would be most effective in fighting obesity? Why are these programs necessary?

Public programs that would be most effective in fighting obesity include mandatory; caloric disclosure requirements, high taxes and bans on sugary drink, food stamp modifications, zoning regulations, educating the people about the ills of obesity, physical education. These programs are necessary because according to reports the United States has the world’s highest per capita obesity rate. Obesity is linked to various diseases such as insulin resistance and diabetes, cardiovascular disease etc. According to the Statistics, the rich live longer than the poor. The major factors that explain this include; less of drinking of alcohol, more of physical activity such as going to the gymnasium and exercising, more of prevention due to better education.
