Answer #1

One of the most important challenges the earth and its people face is the environmental degradation which would lead to climate change. This means human beings knowingly exploit nature and spoil the entire environment. All the countries fight with each other in terms of tapping the resources with a selfish nature thus depleting them too quickly. This common sense is lost as individuals continue to exploit the resources without worrying about the future generations and their needs. Besides, they only care about human beings and keep destroying the abodes of other creatures. Even though human beings are said to have sixth sense, they do not use their reasoning ability to think beyond their needs.

Hi Tina. Thanks so much for starting our discussion this week! You brought up a great point about independence. In order for an audit opinion to be reliable, it must be issued by an “independent” accounting firm. The increased independence requirement of SOX took away huge amounts of revenue from the public accounting firms. However, I think most of them have probably been able to make up most of those lost revenues through the additional work they do related to...

Consider a Cournot duopoly of two identical cigarette producing firms, Warlboro and Cramel. They produce tobacco of same quality and, ceteris paribus, each firm sells to 1 million smokers, making $100 profits per smoker. These 2 million smokers are addicts (as most smokers are). They may change which tobacco they smoke but they do not quit. On the other hand, those who are not smokers will not start even if they are encouraged (because they understand the harm). In other...
