Your friend plans to seek treatment by going to a psychotherapist. Your friend seeks some advice from you about which type of psychotherapy may be most helpful. I would recommend cognitive therapy.

Cognitive therapy concentrates on the thoughts of the person. This type of therapy emphasizes on what people think than what they do. According to this, it is dysfunctional thinking that leads to dysfunctional emotions or behaviour. In this case, he is going through depression. Depression is results of negative thoughts and over thinking. I'm cognitive therapy, they change the way person thinks and it helps him to come out of the depression.
