Multi-media instruction can invoke multi-tasking in learners on voluntary and involuntary levels. Several information channels may be in operation and may be activated consciously or unconsciously. During learning, one or more channels may be utilizing the maximum cognitive resources available. Under those conditions, cross-channel interference may be more likely. In light of the phenomena of voluntary and involuntary initiation of cognitive tasks by multi-media presentations are multi- or mono-media instructional materials more efficacious to learners? Why?

The world has changed a lot with the help of the technology. People, their attitudes and the way they learn things have also changed drastically. The development in education has brought a paradigm shift in the way courses are developed and offered. Multi-media is the effect of this technological innovation. Almost all the classrooms today are equipped with multi-media systems and interface. In my opinion, today’s generation look for variety and novelty in classrooms because the traditional classrooms where the facilitator talks during the entire lecture hour is boring for them. Using multi-media activates more than one sense organ, thus keeping the learners engaged and interested. Multi-media presentation alone won’t motivate the learner, it’s also the person who delivers through different activities with the help of multi-media will fine tune the learners.
