How does Mencius’s view on the human (moral) nature bear on his approach to moral cultivation?
Mencius original name is Mengzi. He is a second confucius philosophor in 300 BC. According to this philosophor human nature is good, which means human have an innatye nature towards virutues. For an individual to have a good life he or she should have benevolence, righteousness, wisdom and propriety which are all innate characteristics. Mengzi used an agricultural concept as a metaphore to individuals human moral nature. He says human sow the seeds of virtue in their heart and if they grow it in a healthy manner then the person become fully virtuous. Then the human is said to posses full healthy virtues inbuilt in them. To give a realistic example to his view mengzi told that when a person imagine or see a child is going to fall into a well , it brings an immediate reflexive action or a gut in the individual. This shows that the individual have a innate predispositions in them.
