Your friend is have an existential crisis and asks you, "How do you define consciousness?" After taking this course, what do you say? Please approach this question from a biological prespective
Consciousness is the wakeful state of the brain which is triggered by the external stimuli in the environment received through the senses. This would mean that the senses pick-up stimuli from the environment and send signal to the brain parts that are responsible for those stimuli such as, visual, auditory, spatial etc. in order to elicit a response by initiating emotions and memory. It’s all about becoming aware of one’s own environment by using one’s brain components, prior experiences that are stored in the memory, applying appropriate emotions thus, creating a wakeful state of consciousness.
