Answer #1

According to the Atkinson-Shiffrin Model of Memory, information is first detected by the sense organs and enters the sensory memory. The names of our classmates must first be seen or heard to be memorised. If the information attended to, it enters the short term memory. Information from the short-term memory is transferred to the long-term memory only if that information is rehearsed. We would require to repeatedly expose ourselves to the names of our classmates in order for us to store it in the long term memory. This process is referred to as maintenance rehearsal and if it does not occur, then information is forgotten, and lost from short term memory through the processes of displacement or decay.
