In phonetic word ,there is a direct relationship between the spelling and the sound.

Example : Dad

explanation: The word "dad" being spelled the way it sounds. Hence it is phonetic.

In unphonetic word ,there is a indirect relationship between the spelling and the sound i.e. non- uniform correspondence of spelling to sound. Also in case of unphonetic words pronunciation and spelling do not match.

Example : said

explanation:  According to spelling, the word said should be pronounced as *sayed*. It should rhyme with the word paid. But it doesn't. So said is an example of unphonetic word.
