You get into an argument with your roommate about whose turn it is to clean your shared fish tank. You have a clear memory of cleaning the tank last time, but your roommate insists that she was the one who cleaned it last time. Explain the mental processes you will use to determine whether your memory or your roommate's memory is accurate. (Do not focus on compromises or preventive measures for future conflicts such as this; focus on the ways to verify memories.)

Answer #1

I shall use the following mental processes to determine whether my memory or my roommate's memory is accurate:

(A)Serial Recall:

(1)We shall try to recall events in the order in which they occurred. This is called serial recall and can be used to help our cue memories.

(2)By thinking about a string of events, it is possible for both of us to use a previous memory to cue the next item in the series.

(3)Serial recall will help us to remember the order of events in cleaning the tank last time.

(B)Cued Recall:

(4)Cues can also facilitate recovery of our memories that have been “lost.”

(5)This will occur when I will provide cues to my roommate to aid in the retrieval of memories.
