The baptism of Jesus Christ by St. John the Baptist was one of the events that preceded the start of the public life of Jesus. The Baptism of Christ is oneof the five major events in His life; the other four being His Transfiguration, Crucifixion, Resurrection, and Ascension. Baptism according to the teachings of the churches in general means that human beings lost the right to the kingdom of God through the sin comitted by Adam and Eve and through the sacrament of baptism initiated by St John the Baptist we are once again made worthy of the promises of Christ. The original sin (It is believed that we are all born with original sin as a result of the disobedience of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden),is washed away.
