Today more people are rejecting party identification and registering as independents. Is it possible for a serious third party to emerge in the United States, positioned ideologically between the Democrats on the left and the Republicans on the right? How about on the fringe of either the left or right? Why or why not?

Answer #1
  • According the an article published by Pew Research in July of 2016, it was found that in 2014, 39% of the public identified as independents, which was larger than the shares calling themselves Democrats (32%) or Republicans (23%).
  • Looking at this statistic it would seem very possible that a serious third party is likely to emerge in the Unites States, but most independent express a partisan leaning towards one party or the other. This independent party that could emerge if unified would make a substantial change in the politics of the United States but only 6% of these independents do not lean toward one party or the other.
  • A third party could come in, and if it was exactly centered between right and left, it might have a chance to get a candidate elected. But it is not a stable situation, so third parties don't tend to stay around.
  • If there were to be a powerful third party (say, the "Radical Centrist" party), the only way it could stay in that electable zone is if it worked kind of like a Segway. It wouldn't have the luxury of having primaries and such to pick its candidate.
  • Candidates would be chosen by a high tech process that runs specialized polls, monitors prediction markets, and looks at every other bit of data out there to find a candidate that is perfectly centered between the likely nominees of the two main parties.
  • They'd specifically look for candidates that were flexible on certain issues, and were willing to alter their positions on those issues as needed, to stay right there in the sweet spot where they can actually get elected.
  • Due to time limit, any remaining questions can be asked as another question, they will be answere, thankyou for your cooperation

Suicide is the third most common cause of death for fifteen to twenty-four year olds, after accidents and homicides (Feldman 286). The rate of adolescent suicide among boys is higher than with girls, with attempts at suicide more likely to be fatal because of the use of more violent means, such as guns. However, girls attempt suicide more frequently, but attempts are less likely to be fatal because less violent means are used, such as by drug overdose (Feldman 287)....
