In this class, you will learn that our social backgrounds influence our attitudes and behaviors. Do you believe that your social background has an impact on your personality and who you are as a person? Why or why not?

Answer #1

In my view, social background plays an important role in determining an individual’s attitude and behaviour. Every person occupies a position in a social system and their relationships among these positions make up the social structure. These create role expectations about how occupants of positions will behave. Having been born in a “middle class” family, I have observed and have been taught several values that have shaped me to become who I am today. For instance, I believe that if I work hard, success will naturally follow. Type A personality traits such as competitive achievement striving and sense of time urging are encouraged in this regard.
