However, since he graduated from college and became a journalist, Nathan has been an outspoken critic of his country, blaming it for most of the problems that exist in the world—including the behavior of tyrants and dictators in other countries.
Nathan’s conflict arises out of his upbringing that suggests him to be loyal to his country while his education taught him to critically analyse his country as a journalist. This would mean that informing people about the reality without subjectively attaching oneself with one’s past learning. Utilitarian suggests that an act would be considered ethical if it maximizes benefit to maximum number of people and reduce any harm. This would mean that what Nathan does in terms of criticizing the evil effects of the system is his responsibility towards the people. Although he criticizes his own country and governance, he does so in order to make it better and benefit the greater number of people.
