Families aren't particularly in on the decline, but the concept and the nature of families is definitely shifting with the once traditional and dogmatic social institutions of marriage and family weakening considerably with the shifting social scenario.

People have taken over a more casual and care free approach with respect to families as a result, and live ins are common with children without marriage, and shift in nature over how certain social institutions were earlier perceived.

Maybe the terminology of families has evolved, but the sentiment still remains, and they are merely shifting in its trend as opposed to declining.
