Use two or more citations from Locke, Second Treatise of Government to support argument
Locke sees property as a key to goog government, and the protection of rights. What good things do you see in society as a result of the protection of private property? What ills do you see as a result of the protection of private property? Locke states that the poorest laborer in England is better off than a chief of a Native American tribe. Which would you rather be and why?
Protection of private property is the fundamental element of the social contract. The problem with private property is that the rich would become richer and the poor would become poor. The government would also be formed by the power elites who are obviously the rich people. These people would further advance laws that would further protect the individual property of the rich. I would choose to be the Tribal leader because life as a tribal leader would make me the owner as well as guardian of not only the land but also the people. Thus, power is to serve and not to exploit. The poor labor n England wouldn’t have any basic respect or means to lead a decent life that he/she deserves.
