2. Would you believe yourself trapped if everything you did was determined by your circumstances and psychological conditions? Why?
3. Why does Nagel doubt that we are responsible for our choices if they are not determined? Do you agree? Why?
Determinism is the school of thought that holds that all events, including human action, can be ultimately explained by causes that are external to the will. I would definitely feel trapped if I surrendered to the view that everything I did was determined by my circumstances and psychological conditions. I would appear to me as though I’m a passive agent playing a role that has already been sketched out for me, while treading on a path that I require to follow. Every action of mine, would therefore appear a natural consequence of some previous cause, with my body being a mere instrument to carry them out.
