Illusion and delusion are distinct concepts. Illusion results from some type of sensory distortion which interferes with our ability to perceive reality correctly. Illusion is external as it is caused by certain types of stimuli in the environment. However, delusion occurs from internal beliefs that have no basis on reality. Delusions stem from our own thinking and are not related to any external stimulation.
