The most most popular theories in Criminology include the Classical School and the Rational Choice Theory. The Classical School of thought was premised on the idea that people have free willin making decisions, and that punishment can be a deterrent for crime, so long as the punishment is proportional, fits the crime, and is carried out promptly. On the other hand, the Rationale Choice Theory posits that man is a reasoning actor who weighs means and ends, costs and benefits, and makes a rational choice.
