What are alternatives to peer court?
Unlike traditional juvenile courts that sentences punitive actions against a juvenile offender, teen courts makes the juvenile offender to take the responsibility of their offence through restorative justice. Teen or peer court is community based justice system that is run and managed by youths who are trained to work in the courtroom, hence, it derives the name "peer court". These youth staff work under the supervision of a judge. The proceedings of this court is similar to normal courts, with the difference that this court gives alternatives to punitive sentences in the form of sanctions as community service, apology, and enrollment in a counseling program.
