Outline the Marxist view of media ownership.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The Marxist view of media ownership seeks to explain the manner in which the popular discourse is controlled by those who have power. According to this view, those who have the power to own the media also get to control and set the agenda when it comes to the media. This is done by the members of the bourgeoisie class as they are the ones who are wealthy enough to own media. Thus, the discourse or the agenda of those in power gets further perpetuated and dominant ideology takes and exerts further control. Thus, there is also a lot of manipulation that takes place by the means of the media ownership.
