post a two-paragraph response to the following:
Think about your own adolescent years.
How would you describe your self-esteem and sense of identity during adolescence, and how did it evolve?
What sociocultural influences played a role in your identity formation? How did your relationship with your parent(s) influence your identity development?
Self esteem and self identity of an individual depends a lot upon his immediate environmental reinforcements. For instance, in adolescence, a person's self esteem depends on what others think of him and tell him. I personally had a very low self-esteem. I had an older sibling who would mock me about my growing fondness for food and obesity. He would call me names. I eventually believed that I am what he thinks me to be or the things he called me. However, once I passed through adolescence, I met different kinds of people who said a lot different things than my sibling did. I was called smart, intelligent and funny. My shattered self-esteem and a self demeaning sense of identity evolved with input from other adults. It helped me reevaluate myself and feel better instead of indulging in constant self-demeaning behaviour.
