Describe the behavior modification technique of “time out,” identify on what theory this approach is based, and indicate when and how it is used. Do you believe it is an effective strategy? Why or why not? Would you use it with your own children? Why or why not?
Time out is a technique to modify child behavior by getting him out of doing dangerous act , or doing unacceptable act . It is aimed at helping child gain control over his act and behavior. It is not a punishment but only providing necessary time required to child to rationally u derstand his behavior and gain control over them.
Yes , I do believe that it is an effective strategy but only when it is used with discipline, consistency and repetition . It can be highly helpful in changing behavior when child is angry . At the same time it becomes ineffective if parents are using it too often and using it when they are frustrated and angry.
Yes I will use it with my children because of its effectiveness mentioned above.
