Instinsic motivatirs are much more effective in comparison to extrinsic motivators in my opinion. This is because when the drive stems from an internal source, it results in more perseverance towards the goal. External rewards can fuel short term goal fulfilment however as soon as the incentive would be removed, the goal directed behaviour would also come to an end. Also, every individual will show differences in their preferences for external rewards, in comparison to intrinsic motivation which is a generalised internal drive. In that sense, intrinsic drives are much more stable and are free from the variable effects produced by the environment.
