Our current President has provided several good and recent examples of how checks and balances work in the running of the U.S. Government. For instance, last year in January, our President signed an executive order that halted all refugees and temporarily barred people from seven Muslim-majority countries. However, a few days later, the act was ruled unconstitutional. A federal judge’s ruling reversed that executive order, indicating that it violated a clause in the US Constitution that prohibits discrimination based on religion.
