Conceptualize the term CONDUCT and establish a comparison with the term Behavior. In the development of the comparison, give examples of what would be an observed conduct in the human being.

Conduct refers to the manner in which a person or persons within a group or organisation behave, especially in a particular place or situation. Conduct is used to denote the wide range of behaviour which act more as proscriptions to the members of a social structure, delineating what is expected from them based on social norms. Thus, conduct pertains to a generalised set of actions which are common across the people because of their social roles, occupation or social status. Such as the conduct of politicians in public issues.

In a certain sense, conduct appears to be similar to behaviour and the two terms are often used interchangeably. However, there is a lexical difference as the two words have different meanings attached to them. Primarily, conduct is used to describe actions which are more stable over time whereas behaviour applies to more time specific responses whether in the past or in the present at some well-defined point in time. Another crucial difference between the two is that Conduct seems more formal behaviour which is suitable and socially appropriate for a certain environment, and for this reason it is especially used within the lexicon of institutions. On the other hand, Behavior is used to refer to immediate interactions by an individual more frequently in informal situations.


A person's conduct over time might be determined from their behavior during individual events. Often, people use the term conduct to evaluate or judge another individual’s character ("what would they really say/do?") based on conduct. Thus, the word Conduct suggests greater formality, discipline and trained control. As a noun, it can be used to describe job performance. It relates to a standard of behavior such as in the sentence ‘ he was found to have an unprofessional conduct in the programme last night.’

It isn’t because of its proscriptive connotation that conduct is used in formal language to decribe the set of responsibilities and expected behaviour patterns of different degrees of professionals, management within organisations. Organisations draft a well-written code of conduct which states the organization's mission, values and principles. In this way, conduct comes to articulates the values the organization wishes to foster in its leaders and employees and it ultimately defines the desired behavior of the members.
