a) He is called the father of scientific method . His biggest contribution to world is 'focus on scientific methodology for attaining knowledge " . He always believed in practical wisdom but advocated the scientific pursuit for knowledge gain.

b)As per Bacon , Studies serve for ornament and for ability.He says “ Read not to contradict, nor to believe, but to weigh and consider. This idea has transformed the method of reading and attaining knowledge.
