Answer #1

The results section of an APA style report will contain information about the outcome of the statistical tests used to analyse the data.

Results section tries to bring out the outcomes of the tests that was performed to analyse the obtained data through various methods. This section doesn’t involve the theory part or the interpretation of those results. The results obtained through the analysis would be detailed in an orderly fashion in order to provide a comprehensive detail about how the result looks like with numbers and graphs.

Problem Set 1: Linear Regression Research Scenario:A human resources specialist wanted to know if conscientiousness is a good predictor of job performance. Conscientiousness was evaluated using likert based questions from the open access International Personality Item Pool (IPIP) based on Goldberg’s Big Five (1992). Questions were summed (range 0 – 20), with higher values indicating more conscientiousness. Job performance was an average of several factors, ranging from 0 – 20, with higher scores indicating better job performance. He compiles the...

Research Scenario: an organizational psychologist is studying whether 10 minutes of guided mediation lowers axiety before weekly board meeting. She randomly assigns participants to either come 10 minutes early and participant in the guided mediation, or arrive on time. Using this table enter the data into a new SPSS data file and run an independent samples t test to test whether mediation lessend anxiety. Remember to name and define your variables under the "variable view," then return to the "data...

The easiest way to affect the outcome of a hypothesis test is to increase sample size. Similarly, true results may sometimes be missed because a sufficient sample was not used in the research. Perform the hypothesis test on these data with a sample of 37. Then perform the same hypothesis test but assume that the mean was based on only 4 infants. The easiest way to increase statistical power is to increase sample size. Similarly, statistical power decreases with a...

Hours of sleep: The table below provides information about hours of sleep. Calculate statistical power for a one-tailed test (a = 0.05, or 5%) aimed at determining if those in the sample sleep fewer hours, on average, than those in the population. Recalculate statistical power with alpha of 0.01, or 1%. Explain why changing alpha affects power. Explain why we should not use a larger alpha to increase power. Without performing any computations, describe how statistical power is affected by...

This project is related to statistical inference about the difference between two population parameters and the analysis of variance. You need to formulate hypotheses testing and confidence estimation as you learned in class. Each group must collect data related to the topic of their choice. You should specify your parameter of interest and the claim, make the hypotheses, perform test calculations and estimation, and make a conclusion. specify your parameter of interest and the claim, make the hypotheses, perform test...

An investigator conducts an experiment involving the effects of background information on jurors’ decision making. All participants watch a video of a trial in which a woman is accused of shoplifting. Before viewing the video, each participant is given a background sheet with information about the accused woman. Each participant is randomly assigned to one of three conditions. Participants in group 1 are given a background sheet that states that the woman has previously been convicted of shoplifting three times....

Research Scenario: A developmental psychologist wants to study the effect of instructional type on learning of the alphabet. She randomly selects a sample of 20 students at the local preschool and assigns them to two groups, a “Testing Effect” group who takes daily tests of recall on the alphabet (n=10) and a “Meaningful to Self” group who comes up with things they like that start with each letter of the alphabet and discuss them in groups (n=10). After one week...

Research Scenario: Is there a positive relationship between grit and GPA in high school seniors? A researcher examined this issue by having students beginning their senior year of high school complete a grit inventory using a Likert-based scale (range 1 – 7), where higher numbers indicate more “grit”. GPA was self-reported (scale 0 – 4.0). Enter the data shown here into SPSS to assess whether there is a positive relationship between grit and GPA. Grit GPA 6.5 4.0 4.0 3.1...
