The symbolic interactionist theory states that individuals develop a mutual understanding of social phenomena by the meanings they attach to it. They are therefore likely to look at past events while advocating for or against gun control. The functionalist theory asserts that gun can either maintain stability by being available for protection or can cause discord in the society by causing violence. Gun control measures should be developed keeping its in mind. Finally, the conflict theory holds that gun control is a measure introduced by the government in order to check the behaviours of the citizens.
