Rosalind Cartwright is a leading sleep and dream reseacher. She believes that dreams are meant to connect important life events stored in the long term memory to similar recently occured emotion evoking experiences. So she says that the purpose of dream is to resolve the negative mood experienced during an event known as mood regulatory function of dream theory. So a person dreamibg about her family every night indicates that she gives importance to her family and currently she maybe having an issue within her family and is dreaming to resolve the negative mood created because of the issue.
