Answer 1

Applying the theoretical perspectives of sociology allows gerontology to have access to and address the tools with respect to issues faced during the later stages of life. Individuals should be viewed in the framework of their roles and statuses, and how they organise these in the formation of a unified self. In this regard, the shift of societies towards modernisation with agrarian societies giving way to post-modern societies has an obvious impact on the roles and statuses of individual members. Keeping this in mind, social gerontology has an imminent role to play in the field of gerontology.
