What are the latest developments about HIV and AIDS ? What are the challenges today? What will the future look like?
Since 1980s when HIV and AIDS was first reported and dangers that they posed we're evaluated, there has been atremendous efforts to bring it under control. The effective preventive measures (as teaching safe sex, preventing stigmatization against HIV patients and populations vulnerable to it, providing access to better medical facilities to them and addressing the housing issues etc, also the introduction of biomedical tools as Antiretroviral Treatment) has caused 19% decline in diagnosing fresh cases of HIV infection. Also these steps have helped the people with this infection to lead a normal life. But still every week around 20,000 of HIV positive people die, and nearly 40,000 people get this disease.
This infection is still an epidemic for which there is no cure once infected, and no vaccine to prevent. Though there are three or four vaccine but they are on clinical trial. Hence, the eradication and cure of this disease is the greatest challenge. Now, the mechanism of HIV virus is known, how it gets into the body and how it effect the immunity of the body, in future there will be some cure and vaccines for the treatment and eradication of this disease. Till that time creating awareness among the people, providing them with better structural facilities and access to health care, and uplifting them socially and economically are the best tools to prevent and eradicate this disease.
