This module uses bread as an example of an agent for change. Bread appears in the bible (manna perhaps) in many ways. Jesus "broke bread" with his apostles, and when Catholics go to mass they eat bread which was "transubstantiated" into the body of Christ. Why might bread play such a major symbolic, allegoric, or religious role? Think of the bread that you enjoy as well and reflect on how this ancient food source plays transformative roles in your own lives. (For me, those peanut butter and jelly sandwiches my mother made all those years ago - if I could only have one more!)

Bread is one of the popular food in the world and bread has a major role in civilization too. In some culture, they associated the production of bread to the procreation. Some believed that the mystery of human birth and death was similar to the life cycle of plants. So they connected wheet to bread. Bread as very common food, it adopted as the symbol of survival, reality, gift, hardwork, solving miseries etc.

Farming had a profound affect in the religious beliefs. In Christianity, bread is considered as a gift from God. When Jesus multiplied the bread and fed to the croud, bread became a sign of sharing. Even the birth place of Jesus Christ is in Bethlehem; means house of bread. Bread also represent the hope, eternal life etc.
