Is the following an argument or not? "Dolphins are mammals, and whales are mammals, but sharks are a species of fish." A. argument B. not an argument

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Answer: B (not an argument)

Because in arguments, there will be Premise and Conclusion. In this statement, first two sentences can be taken as premises but last sentence i.e "sharks are a species of fish" cannot be a conclusion as "but" is used.

The statement just gave clarity that dolphins and whales are mammals but sharks are a species of fish. shark being a species of fish is not dependent on wheather dolphins and whales are mammals. So, the given statement is not an argument.
