In the book Picturing Will Compare and contrast Jody and Mel’s relationship to Wayne and Corky’s relationship. How are they similar? How are they different? How do they compare to “traditional” male-female relationships? Do these characters seem to adhere to the traditional feminine and masculine gender roles assigned by society to women and men respectively? Do they subvert – undermine and challenge – these conventional gender roles in any way?
In the book Picturing Will, Mel and Jody are seen as a couple who gets married and moves to a new city. Jody's son, Will, is ultimately taken care of by Mel as Jody started being busy with her career. In the case of Wayne and Corky, their view to the desires to life were contrary to each other. Where Wayne wanted to work, Corcky wanted a child and Wayne was eventually planning to divorce her. In both the above cases, similarities are in the need to set career i.e Jody's and Wayne's interest in setting career. While Jody got complete support from her husband Mil, Wayne wasn't able to get support from Corcky.
