Joshua might have difference reactions to the taste of broccoli because he is three years old. During this time, children are in the picky-eating stage. During this stage. children develop the sense to differentiate between various food tastes and the ability to choose certain tastes over another.

Children become selective about their food intake due to various reasons such as genetic factors, breast-feeding or lack of it, etc. Generally children who are breast fed, have a wider range of taste as they experience the taste of mother's milk which changes everyday depending on what the mother ate.

The mother on the other hand may like the taste of broccoli due to reasons such as her familiarity to its taste, her knowledge about its food value, etc.
