Answer #1

According to the cognition-arousal theory of Schachter-Singer for a person to experience and label an emotion he has to experience the physiological arousal, followed by an identification of the reason behind the arousal and the labeling it as an emotion. For example, while we are alone in a dark room and all of a sudden we hear the sound of a gun behind us. Our heart rate increases and we shake. Upon noticing these physical reactions, we realize that this is happening to us as we are alone in a dark room. We think that we are in danger, and we feel the emotion of fear.
