Displine could be identified as a positive method in which the child would be learning strategies of self control as well as responsibility. As a result of discipline strategies, the child also develops self confidence in carrying out his functions. The most important aspect of positive discipline is when the child would be taught if the behavior is fine or okay, and if the behavior is incorrect. Here, the parent would be focusing on the type of actions the kid is allowed to do and what the kid is not allowed to do.
Whereas, punishment could be defined as the behavior that includes physical aspects such as hitting, beating, or spanking. These behaviors are completely different from discipline behaviors as it causes psychological stress in the child where he might be shamed or isolated or there would be strong disapproval for every action that the child performs. Punishment would be focusing on the past misbehaviours of the child and there would be no scope of improvement but only punishments.
Discipline can be encouraging, when a child is eating mud while playing, the child would be scolded and denied to do so as it is an incorrect behavior. The child would be explained the implications of this action and asked to not so this again. On the other hand, for punishment, the child would be beaten again and again in an aggravated manner, so that he forms an aggression and does not repeat his actions. In fact if the child is hit again and again, further it does not stop him, rather forms aggressive behaviors and stubbornness.
