What are the three prongs of the three-prong test of obscenity?
Obscene Test or Miller Test as it is called is he US Supreme Court’s direction towards what determines a free speech and what not. The three prongs as they are usually called, determine whether a speech or expression comes under the free speech or it could be considered as obscene thus against the free speech.
Firstly, if a work arouses more sexual desire among the viewers and if it doesn’t fit the contemporary society, it would be considered as obscene.
Secondly, if the work is visibly offending the viewing public, especially in the sexual representation, the work would be considered as obscene.
Thirdly, if the work doesn’t have any artistic, literary, and social value, the work would be considered as obscene.
